Did ya have many Trick or Treaters last night? We had three large bowls of tootsie rolls worth...cutest ones were a cockroach and a fireman. Both little boys from the neighborhood about 2-3 years old. Bill asked the one little guy "Oooo, what are you?" And was answered rather matter of factly - "A Cockroach!" LOL! The door greater sat patiently on her stoop as each one of the kids grabbed a handful of tootsie rolls...she was, however, in costume. A leopard, this year. HA...did you miss me? I know I have been gone a long time, and really have no reason, just a bunch of excuses. The biggest being that life gets in the way. Saying so long to 2010 was sure easy. Bye Bye. Now that it's 2011 I hope to blog a bit more. Not that anyone comes to my blog, but on the out-chance that someone does come see me, it would be nice if I was at least up to date with the "gossip" of the Greater Saint Petersburg area... Went to Europe again this vacation. October we were in Paris, London and Amsterdam. Loved London. Not much to say about Amsterdam, and Paris...well an old friend once said that Paris is wasted on the Parisians. I now know what she meant. We saw everything we could in Paris. The whole city, as a matter of fact...from the top of the Eiffel Tower. Damn it was cold and windy, but I took pictures along all the sides that were accessible to people. My SO is NOT a height person, so he hung onto the inside wall. To his credit, though, he did venture once by me to see the soccer field all aglow...it was the size of a 4 postage stamp square from way up there. That was it. One look, a quick self-portrait photo of us two, and back to wall hugging he flew.

Paris 2010

We are off to Paris this year for our bi-annual trip to Europe. We are in the planning stages, although we do know where we are going to stay, and how we are going to get there. NOW, the fun begins. Where to go first. What to see. How to see it. I am satisfied that our fabulous hotel has a view of the Eiffel Tower out the window, and that the metros are within walking distance of the hotel. Not too keen on the idea of the 185 plus steps to climb the Arc de Triomphe - but when in Rome...(I mean Paris)...I did climb to a pretty lofty height while visiting Mount Vesuvius in Italy, so one can assume I would be able to do the steps...perhaps my DSO won't be hung over this time. LOL...that was not a pretty sight. Anywho, getting pretty excited about this adventure, as you can well imagine. Pics and Posts along the way!

Season 8 of my all time favorite television program is about to come to an end. Jack Bauer will be no more. No more 24. No more Chloe...boy I sure do like her character. The expressions she has and her never ending technical expertise is something to be in awe of. And then, there's Charles Logan. One person that I love to hate. He has some expressions - ichy slimish "oh, damn, don't believe him Madam President...just look at his face...he's bullshitting you...duh...you went for it again". He's such a weasel! This program has been part of our lives for the past 8 years. I can still recall the weekend that Bill and I caught up on the COMPLETE first two years...remember when you last pulled an all-nighter??? Bet it wasn't to watch a television program. LOL. Anyway...as 24 comes to an end I am hoping that Jack Bauer will some how show up in the movie theater with a "sequal" to somehow save the country...wouldn't that be great? Because ya know...they just can't KILL him. Not on national television. Not in America. Not on my watch...

Saw this today on a friends post on Sassy Cheryl's Blog, and HAD to share it. Love it!!! A woman, renewing her driver's license at the Departments Clerk’s office, was asked by the woman recorder to state her occupation. She hesitated, uncertain how to classify herself. 'What I mean is, 'explained the recorder, 'do you have a job or are you just a .?' 'Of course I have a job,' snapped the woman. 'I'm a Mum.' 'We don't list 'Mum' as an occupation, 'Housewife' covers it,' said the recorder emphatically. I forgot all about her story until one day I found myself in the same situation. The Clerk was obviously a career woman, poised, efficient, and possessed of a high-sounding title like, 'Official Interrogator' or 'Town Registrar.' 'What is your occupation?' she probed. What made me say it? I do not know. The words simply popped out. 'I'm a Research Associate in the field of Child Development and Human Relations.' The clerk paused, ballpoint pen frozen in mid-air and looked up as though she had not heard right. I repeated the title slowly emphasizing the most significant words. Then I stared with wonder as my pronouncement was written, in bold, black ink on the official questionnaire. 'Might I ask,' said the clerk with new interest, 'just what you do in your field?' Coolly, without any trace of fluster in my voice, I heard myself reply, 'I have a continuing program of research, (what mother does not) in the laboratory and in the field, (normally I would have said indoors and out). I am working for my Masters, (the whole family) and already have four credits (all daughters). Of course, the job is one of the most demanding in the humanities, (any mother care to disagree?)And I often work 14 hours a day (24 is more like it). But the job is more challenging than most run-of-the-mill careers and the rewards are more of a satisfaction rather than just money.' There was an increasing note of respect in the clerk's voice as she completed the form, stood up, and personally ushered me to the door. As I drove into our driveway, buoyed up by my glamorous new career, I was greeted by my lab assistants -- ages 10, 7, and 3. Upstairs I could hear our new experimental model, (my 6-month-old baby) in the child development program, testing out a new vocal pattern. I felt I had scored a beat on bureaucracy! And I had gone on the official records as someone more distinguished and indispensable to mankind than 'just another Mum'. Motherhood! What a glorious career! Especially when there is a title on the door. Does this make grandmothers 'Senior Research associates in the field of Child Development and Human Relations' and great grandmothers 'Executive Senior Research Associates'? I think so!!! I also think it makes Aunts 'Associate Research Assistants'!!!

I love our country and what we represent and all that we have done! I am proud to be an American…there still is not a better country in the world than this one! You could have heard a pin drop. At a time when our president and other politicians tend to apologize for our country`s prior actions, here`s a refresher on how some of our former patriots handled negative comments about our country.. JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaulle decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaulle said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible. Rusk responded, "does that include those who are buried here?" DeGaulle did not respond. You could have heard a pin drop. When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush... He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.' You could have heard a pin drop. There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?’ A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?' You could have heard a pin drop. A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S... , English, Canadian, Australian, and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !” The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Oh, man...just as Tom Shayes gets his name on the door - Hewes & Shayes - the scene flashes forward six months and he is found murdered. YIKES...this has to be one of my favorite shows and I am so happy that someone had me in mind when they invented program recording and TIVO!! With Jack in "24", Patty in "Damages", House in "House" and that cutie pie Jane in "Medium"...our TIVO really gets a work out. And, Bill tapes E-V-E-R-Y House Hunters episode that is on...he's trying to find the PERFECT vacation home location. For under $500,000...LOL...For me, as long as it is in Italy, it won't matter. But come one, now...how could "Damages" get any more suspenseful than last season? Glenn Close is a wonderful actress, and her character Patty Hewes is such a Biatch - I just love her. Can't wait til next Tuesday...(TIVO Monday cuz I can't stay up til 10 to watch it on Monday)...

Can you beleive the weather here in Saint Petersburg looks and feels like this???? It is GOING to warm up, but today is another cold one. Took this picture out back at the lake. HAHA...NOT...it's from one of the displays at the Gaylord Palms in Orlando from the wonderful show ICE! If you have not been to see ICE at the Gaylord...it's got to be put on your next Christmas Holiday To Do List. It was amazing and REALLY cold. 9 degrees is VERY VERY COLD!!!

Shot this pic on the way to the office...these birds are always in my yard, and this day they looked really cold, and searching out the food in unison. Of course, I stopped, went back in the house and brought out the rest of the loaf of bread and crumbled it up on our front yard. Hope these birds like bread. Cuz, it better be gone by the time Bill gets home, or my ass is grass for using the best part of the bread for bird food. AND...I caught a glimpse of 'Lil Miss Samantha checking me out - quizzed look on her face...what is my mom doing with those weird things with the long legs??? Her little bitty pink nose stuck on the window...kitty nose smears for sure to clean off the picture window when I get home. LOL

Yep - my mom took real good care of me and I am not sick any more. I have to be a bit careful not to get the sniffles again though, and I WILL be VERY careful. Kitty buggies are no fun. When my mom took me to the Vet, he showed her how to blow my nose...YUCKS to the max...So, here is one of the pics from my latest foto shoot...mom took them this morning. See everyone...I DID grow into my ears. I weigh 4 pounds now, and I used to weigh 2.6 pounds. YIPPEE. Oh, yeah, the other ladies in this post are my big sisters. Kleopatra and Petunia. That guy is Willie T. He is the BEST big brother around. Kleo is very snooty, but I do get along with Petunia - as long as she lets me. Thanks for all the get well wishes, too. Later, Sam

Today I am so bummed out. My baby kitty Samantha has the crud. Bug. Cold. Head congestion. Poor little thing, her nose is running and she has clogged sinus cavities that I can't seem to clear them up. Our vet says it is a viral infection and has to run the course. Just like humans. Since we have 8 fur babies, it's like a nursery...one little runny nose and they all get it. Yep...she us the last one to get it. But she is so small, it's just killing me to watch her. But, she is a tough cookie and will be just fine. Unlike me...it's so sad to watch her breathing with her mouth open...not geting a full portion of sleep...will keep you up to date...thanks for listening.

So - I have "adopted" this Soldier serving in Afghanistan. I have been following her blog for almost the entire time she has been blogging, and saw that she LOVES Basic Grey 6x6 pads and all the stuff that matches. I just had to send her some...went online to BG and sent one of everything. Mainly because they ship to APO and FPO addresses, and alot of other online stores do not. Why, I could not hazard a guess. It seems to me that they would, should, and should be ashamed that they don't - but that is another soap box for another time. Aren't these soldiers the ones protecting us??? Why wouldn't ANYONE want to send something to one of them. It's not like they have a Mikes or a Joann's on the corner of SCUD Missile Lane and IED Blvd... What a fabulous time I had. Can't begin to tell you all the goodies I saw. Spent a bit of cash and made two trips to the car. A feat in itself, since the parking was in another part of the universe, and I am to impatient to wait for the shuttle...logic: walking is good exercise, so just do it... Spent the night and went back for classes and more "walking" LOL...here are two of the make and takes I enjoyed. We even got to keep the stamp set from Taylored Expressions. Very cute and just in time...I am on a "little birdie" kick, and can't get enough "birdie" stamps. I really liked the one we made using the Quickutz border...the colors were so "me". This card was designed using both the masking technique and the Stamp-A-Majig from Stampin Up! I used the beautiful Flower Fancy Stamp Set featured in the 2009 Spring and Summer Idea Book (pg 80) along with the new In Colors featured in the 2009-2010 Fall and Winter Idea Book. These are the most fabulous colors of Crushed Curry, Rich Razzleberry and Melon Mambo. The images are stamped on my all time favorite Whisper White and embellished with a beautiful white Organza Ribbon and bow. Thanks for looking!

Some friends and I participated in the Tampa Bay Scrapbook Treasure Hunt and one of the contests was a "Cover Your Cover" contest - this is my design. I think it turned out pretty good. And here I thought it would be Janice Gold who would be the spy...did you see the "Lady Geeks" exchanging looks tonight? I absolutely love this show, and am in a state of denial while it's off. The writer's strike almost killed me. It's a Tivo staple in our house. We had a marathon 24 a few years back to catch us up from the "first century" and when it was all over, it left me wanting more. I assume that is the object of the game. Now I have to wait until next Monday to see if the First Man dies or not. :( sigh.

And, so it begins. A new year. Already changes are begining to happen. Stampin Up! is on the rise and I am going to devote all my spare time to building my business. I had a fabulous Cards and Conversation with Liz at Jotos last Tuesday - This is one of the cards we made using the "Something New To Love" stamp set. I think it's so cute, and I love the set. Thanks to all of you! Met some new ladies, booked some parties and we're off to an amazing 2009. Can't wait to see how things go. I am always surprised at what the next step in my life is. Every morning Bill gets ready for work with all the normal things that we all do...except for one thing. With his daily splash of Obsession, our gentle-giant fur-baby Willie T has to have his splash as well. Just as if he was “dude-ing” himself up for a night on the town, Willie stands between Bill's legs waiting for him to pet him with Obsession hands. Never mind that it just gets licked off, it's been a daily ritual for as long as I can remember. And if Bill isn't fast enough, Willie'll let him know. That's it. Willie's off to the cat condo for his morning bird watching. All “dude-ed “up. None of the other fur-babies pay any attention, but that doesn’t bother him!!

Deborah and Stephanie - two of the sweetest ladies in all the world. Deborah owns the scrapbook shop called Hobby dei ricordi in Rome, Italy, and her sister, Stephanie, works with her - on occassion (she has a full time job in Rome)...Bill and I arrived at the shop and were treated like royalty. I love the shop, love the ladies, love showing them some of my ideas and techniques, but most of all - I loved the sharing. Deborah's mother, Wilma, is the sweetest. Her husband, Fabrizio is sweet, too!! Can't wait to go back...tbc

What a fabulous time Bill and I had in Italy. A car and a suitcase from city to city is THE way to go. Highlights of this trip - it's our second trip to Italy...teaching in a real Italian Scrapbook Shop with some of the most wonderful ladies ever...climbing Mt. Vesuvius 'til I thought I would die...finally seeing The Leaning Tower of Pisa and knowing that Bill climbed to the top...The video promises to be very exciting...being a part of the Audiance with The Pope...what a thrill that was...standing up close and "in person" to the REAL Statue of The David - how awsome was that you ask??? The awsom-ist!! Seeing the actual fresco of The Last Supper - how sad it is fading...how beautiful it is...driving 100 miles an hour on the Autostrada (NOT a highlight of mine, but Bill sure had fun!!)...the food...oh, the food...can not be described. It has to be experienced!! And we did our share of experiencing the food, too! The countryside, the smells, the people, the thrill of it all...tbc...

It's Friday night, and I have just completed my 4th album that I will be taking to Italy with me. We are in the countdown stage now...75 days. See the timer to the right. I am teaching at a local Italian scrapbook shop that is owned by Deborah. Go to her blog with this link. Several months ago when we decided we were going back to Italy on our annual vacation, I went online to search out scrapbook shops that I could visit while in Italy. Just to see them and perhaps they has something that I couldn't get in the USA. I was shocked to learn that scrapbook supplies and the such are not as readily available in Italy. In Europe, for that matter. Deborah's store in Rome caught my eye and in emailing her for the location and contact information, she visited my blog and was thrilled that I would come to her store and asked if I would be willing to present to her customers something from my treasure chest. What? Was I thrilled? To say the least...we have had many emails over months, and as it gets closer to the time we will be leaving, the anticipation is there. It seems that she opened the store to "add equity to her marriage"...the literal translation to her comment. From the blog and website, it looks like a lovely shop, and she looks like a lovely lady. I am certainly going to enjoy myself. And, maybe pass on some creative vibes along the way. This is our second trip to Italy. My DH has been bitten with the travel bug, and is counting the minutes. Our agenda is full to the point that it is brimming over the top...we have a car, a laptop, the Internet and several maps of the country. Reservations for an audience with the Pope, reservations to see The Last Supper and tickets to the museum to see David. Check back to see pics and read about our travels across the Roman countryside. Or, my plea for help should we get mixed up with the driving rules and end up in "el jail-o"...Later, Liz

Granted, it may be a bit early for some of you out there to even think of Halloween, but it's never to early for me. I LOVE Halloween. I am in several Halloween themed swaps over at Splitcoast Stampers and wanted to share the Card front with you. It's one of my own...Digital Designs For You By Me Liz...and I like it. The background graphic is one I have had for a long time and never had the right opportunity to use it. I used the black cat and fairy to accentuate that spookier than spooky moon...and then I used some corners that I recolored and re sized for a little more pizzazz...Let me know what you think...comments always help the creativity...

Introducing our newest furbaby - Miss Kleopatra!

Okay. This is the last one. I have grounded myself from PetSmart and can not go in that store alone EVAH!! I just couldn't help myself. Look at this little girl's face. She and her 6 siblings were just brought to the local PetSmart where I went to get food for our OTHER 6 "I can't help myselfs'" that we have. I told myself...don't do it...walk away from the kitty kounter...stay on the fish side of the store. NOT!! Wrong! As I walked by, there was all this commotion on the bottom of the cage, and there they were...all 7 of them. Of course, Kleo was the cutest and the most rambunctious of them all. I was only going to hold her, make friends and mosey on my way. Yeah, like that would ever happen. She kissed me and was so sweet and soft...barely could hear her purr...couldn't put her back. 20 minutes later, we were toolin' down the street toward the house. Knowing full well that I had to invent the BEST story ever...pretty hard since I had already invented the last 4 Best Stories ever...but...when Bill came in, Kleo became his Father's Day present!!! Ha! And it worked. He loves her, too. She is perfect in every way. Even Miss Petunia is warming up to her, but a bit slower that the others. Willie, he's the oldest "dad-like" cat, thinks she needs a bath every time he walks by her. Miss Daisy, the oldest "mom-like" cat, watches over her like she is her real mom. The others have adopted her into their circle of cats pretty well. Lil Cesar thought she was a chew toy for a few days, but they are buds to the end now. Thanks for listening!!
